Hungary Reintroduces Border Control on Entry from Schengen Countries

Romania to Become Full Schengen Member in 2025
Romania is set to become a full member of the Schengen area starting from January 1, 2025. This development will bring about changes in the rules for crossing the common border.
According to a report by police.hu, Hungary will temporarily reintroduce border control on the entry side in line with the Schengen Borders Code. The aim is to prevent threats to public order and internal security in the Schengen area.
From the aforementioned date, crossing the state border will be made easier and faster than before. However, entry rights may still be subjected to checks in some cases. As per Schengen regulations, entry into the country will only be permitted at specific border crossing points and checkpoints, and only for authorized vehicle categories.
The listed motorway border crossing points include Csengersima, Shoulder, Birch Figure, Lifeblood, Ártánd, Mehkerek, Gyula, Button, Big House, and Little Bum. Road border crossings comprise of Tiborszállás (Ágerdőmajor), Birch Figure, Bihar Cross, On a Bundle, and Shooting House. Road connections (border crossings) extend to various locations such as Garbolc–Bercu /Szárazberek/, Zajta–Peles /Nagypeleske/, and Ömboly–Karulipuszta/.
Travellers are advised to carry their documents at all times and be prepared for potential random checks by police officers. To ensure safety, they should approach border crossing points with caution as both Hungarian and Romanian authorities may be present.
With Romania’s impending full membership in the Schengen area, changes in border regulations are on the horizon. It is crucial for travellers to be aware of these developments to facilitate smooth and lawful entry into the country.
