Hungary’s EU Presidency Prioritizes Transition to Circular Economy, Climate Change Action
Hungary’s EU presidency is focusing on ensuring a rational and fair transition to the circular economy, combating climate change, and protecting biodiversity while maintaining economic competitiveness, a government official announced at a conference on Thursday.
Anikó Raisz, the state secretary for the environment and circular economy, highlighted the government’s dedication to enhancing Hungary’s environment, safeguarding the health and quality of life of its citizens, and promoting a greener and more circular economy. Raisz emphasized the importance of building a sustainable, healthy, and competitive Europe as a top environmental priority during Hungary’s presidency, especially in her role as the president of the EU’s Environmental Protection Council for the latter half of the year.
The annual scientific conference of the Central European Academy, a platform for scientific exchanges aligning with the EU presidency’s priorities, welcomed nearly 170 researchers from 24 countries, including Poland, Serbia, and Croatia. The event, focusing on regulation and best practices for fostering cooperation among neighboring countries, particularly drew young lawyers to discuss key environmental issues and solutions.
The Hungarian energy ministry’s statement noted the significance of international scientific collaboration in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development. As Hungary takes on the EU presidency, the country’s commitment to environmental protection, climate action, and economic competitiveness remains steadfast.
As discussions at the conference continue, emphasis is placed on cooperation, innovation, and policy implementation to drive positive environmental change and ensure a sustainable future for all.
