Hungary’s European Affairs Minister: Prioritizing Listening to Europeans During Hungarian EU Presidency
The Hungarian EU presidency is taking on the task of ensuring that the voice of European citizens is heard in decision-making processes, according to European affairs minister János Bóka. Speaking at a conference of EU affairs committees in Budapest, Bóka emphasized the importance of considering the expectations and hopes of Europeans in shaping EU policies.
Bóka highlighted the message sent by the recent European parliamentary elections, which indicated that Europeans are looking for more effective and inclusive governance from the EU. He stressed the need for a new agreement on European competitiveness, with a focus on enhancing productivity and competitiveness at both the community and member state levels.
In addition to economic measures, Bóka also emphasized the importance of strengthening Europe’s defense policy. He called for the EU to play a greater role in ensuring its own security by increasing resilience and capacity to act.
As the Hungarian EU presidency takes on these challenges, the goal remains clear: to represent and prioritize the interests of European citizens in shaping the future of the European Union.
