Hungary’s Orbán Cabinet: Foreign Workers Only for Filling Labour Gaps, Not Building Communities

Interior Minister Sándor Pintér made it clear at the Hungarian Assembly of Lawyers that those who do not respect the laws and regulations of Hungary are not welcome to stay in the country. This statement emphasizes the importance of following the laws of the land in order to maintain a peaceful and orderly society.
Pintér highlighted the regulation that states “Hungary belongs to Hungarians” which came into effect in 2024. He pointed out that guest workers are only allowed to fill positions that cannot be filled by Hungarian citizens and that their stay in the country is not unlimited. Those who are expelled from Hungary must leave the country, and the responsibility falls on those who brought them in.
Despite this strict stance on upholding laws, Hungary has provided protection to people arriving from Ukraine who are in need. Pintér mentioned that around 13 million refugees from Ukraine have been welcomed, with 44,000 applications for temporary protection being approved by March 31. Temporary residence permits have also been issued to 245,000 people fleeing the war in Ukraine.
The message is clear – those who do not respect Hungarian laws and regulations will not be allowed to stay in the country. While Hungary stands firm on upholding its laws, it also shows compassion and support to those in need of protection.
