İmamoğlu Discusses Destruction in Vaniköy
Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality recently held a press statement at the Presidential building in Saraçhane regarding the ‘Tour of Istanbul’. During this event, he addressed questions from journalists about the demolition of an illegal villa in Vaniköy.
Imamoğlu expressed his frustrations about the situation, stating, “Do you know what is painful? 24 years of watching. After 24 years, action is finally being taken. It is disheartening to see irregular processes being carried out without notifying the Metropolitan Municipality. The fact that the IMM was not allowed access to the demolition site, which was already in the program for demolition, is concerning.”
He further criticized the actions of those involved, highlighting the lack of transparency and cooperation. Imamoğlu emphasized the importance of following proper procedures and involving the appropriate authorities in such matters.
In response to the efforts to prevent the Metropolitan Municipality teams from entering and intervening in the demolition process, Imamoğlu emphasized, “The guardians of this city are clear. Our responsibility extends beyond Istanbul to all of Turkey. We have a dedicated team and the support of millions of citizens behind us.”
It is crucial for all parties involved to prioritize collaboration and communication to ensure that such incidents are handled appropriately and in accordance with the law. The protection of public spaces and the preservation of the city’s integrity should remain a top priority for all involved stakeholders.
