IMM Assembly Rejects Imamoglu Construction’s Question on Assets

The second session of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Assembly in April meetings took place at the town hall in Saraçhane, with IMM Vice President Nuri Aslan presiding over the meeting. During the meeting, AK Party Assembly Member Cemil Keskin raised a question proposal concerning the business dealings of Ali Nuhoğlu, the founder of Güllüce Agriculture Inc., who allegedly declared concordat and bankruptcy in 2021. Keskin pointed out that the company owned by Nuhoğlu had built 3 luxury villas in Emirgan and questioned the relationship between this company and Nuhoğlu with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

Another issue of concern raised during the assembly was the large public tender worth 2.1 billion pounds awarded to ISTCON AŞ by KİPTAŞ. AK Party Assembly Member raised questions about the details of the tender and requested transparency regarding the tender process.

Furthermore, there were allegations of “nylon invoices” being issued through companies connected to the IMM, leading to money laundering and financing of political activities. The question proposal regarding this matter was also rejected by CHP council members.

Additionally, there were claims about İmamoğlu Construction acquiring 117 immovable properties in 3 years, raising suspicions of unexplained resources and public funds being used for the acquisitions. AK Party Assembly Member Ercan Doner questioned the sources of funding for these properties and the potential commercial relationships between İmamoğlu Construction and the IMM.

The question proposals and discussions in the assembly reflected the ongoing tensions and debates within the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Despite the efforts to address these issues, the rejection of the questions by CHP council members indicates a lack of consensus on how to address these concerns.
