Important Reminder for Food Card Users: Shop Wisely with New Limits – Stay Informed!

Millions of employees in Turkey receive their daily food allowances through food cards, rather than in cash. Whether they are working from home or heading to the office, many use these allocated funds for their grocery shopping. However, a lot of individuals are unaware of the limit imposed on market purchases when using these food cards.
If a person exceeds the designated limit for market purchases with their food card, the payment will not go through. So what exactly is this limit, and how can citizens avoid reaching it? Istanbul Food and Needs Association Chairman Faruk Güzeldere and Consumer Confederation President Aydın Ağaoğlu shared this information with Milliyet.com.tr.
According to Güzeldere, there is a legislation in place regarding the use of food cards for market purchases. The limit for daily market purchases with a food card is set at 158 TL. This means that over a period of 22 working days, the total limit adds up to 3,476 TL. This amount can only be used for market purchases within the span of a month.
Ağaoğlu emphasized the importance of consumers being conscious and careful when using their food cards for shopping. It is crucial for individuals to keep track of their balance and not exceed the specified limit in order to avoid any issues.
Overall, the use of food cards for grocery shopping is a convenient option for employees, especially during times like the pandemic where many are working from home. However, it is essential for consumers to be informed about the limits and regulations in order to make the most out of this benefit.
