Davut Gül Assumes Governorship of Istanbul After Ali Yerlikaya’s Appointment to Ministry of Interior
Davut Gül has been appointed as the new Governor of Istanbul, following the departure of Ali Yerlikaya, who has been appointed to the Ministry of Interior. Gül, who took office just 10 days ago, recently spoke to CNN TÜRK about his plans for Istanbul.
Gül stated that there is no problem in Istanbul that cannot be solved, drawing on his experience as the former governor of Sivas and Gaziantep. He mentioned that Gaziantep, in particular, shares many similarities with Istanbul, as both cities face similar challenges. Gül expressed his commitment to resolving these issues and ensuring the well-being of the people of Istanbul.
During the interview, Gül also highlighted his extensive experience in public service, stating that this is his 23rd year in the profession. He emphasized his dedication to the places he works and his desire to make a positive impact on the lives of the people he serves.
The newly appointed Governor also touched upon the importance of preserving Istanbul’s historical identity and completing restoration projects promptly. Gül believes that maintaining the city’s cultural heritage is crucial for its future development.
In terms of earthquake preparedness, Gül emphasized the urgency of urban transformation in Istanbul. Additionally, Gül provided details about the measures taken for Eid al-Adha, the Islamic festival of sacrifice. He mentioned that more than 50,000 police, gendarmerie, and security forces will ensure the safety of citizens during the holiday. Gül also mentioned that preparations have been made at sacrificial slaughter sites, and he urged citizens to follow safety protocols and avoid sacrificing animals in inappropriate locations.
