In Istanbul, First Lady Erdogan Calls for an End to Brutality
First Lady Emine Erdoğan recently hosted the “One Heart for Palestine” summit in Istanbul, a meeting attended by the spouses of heads of state and government as well as special representatives from numerous countries. The summit, held at the Presidential Dolmabahçe Office under the auspices of First Lady Erdoğan, saw the participation of spouses and special representatives of the heads of state and government from countries including Qatar, Malaysia, and Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, First Lady Erdoğan made a number of statements addressing the ongoing conflict. She emphasized that history’s conscience has never favored the oppressor, and spoke out against the cruelty faced by the people of Palestine. She questioned the morality of those perpetuating violent acts against innocent civilians and called for an end to the brutality.
Erdoğan also denounced the unjust occupation of Palestine and urged for the construction of a future that can offer children a bright and peaceful life in Gaza. She also called for international efforts to unite for a ceasefire and condemned the violence against women and children in Palestine.
This is not the first time that First Lady Erdoğan has advocated for peace in Palestine. In 2009, she led the “Women’s Meeting for Peace in Palestine” in Istanbul while her husband, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was the prime minister. This meeting was held at a time when Israel’s attacks on Gaza had intensified, resulting in the loss of hundreds of lives. During this meeting, the spouses of leaders from various regional countries unanimously supported the “Istanbul Call for Support to Gaza.”
In addition to hosting these summits, First Lady Erdoğan has been an advocate for peace and relief efforts in Gaza, highlighting the importance of international support and assistance for the people of Palestine.
