Inaugural Winter Festival in Lillafüred Featuring Classical Concerts

The first FAB Winterfest winter festival is set to take place at Hotel Palota in Lillafüred, a part of Miskolc in northeastern Hungary. This event is organized by the Festival Academy and will last from Friday to Sunday, featuring over fifteen local and foreign artists performing in the salons and halls of Hotel Palota. The winter “mini-festival” will include daytime tea and salon concerts and evening concerts, providing attendees with a diverse and immersive musical experience.

The festival will kick off with excerpts from Bartók’s “Duos for Two Violins,” followed by works by Mozart such as the “Divertimento in E-flat major” and the “Sonata in E minor.” On Friday, the event will close with Richard Strauss’ “Till Eulenspiegel einmal anders, Op. 28.”

Saturday’s program includes Brahms’ “Cello Sonata in E minor” in the morning, Bach and Leclair’s “Afternoon tea with baroque music” in the afternoon, and Beethoven’s “Septet in E flat major, Op. 20” and Strauss’ “Metamorphoses” in the evening. The concerts will be followed by a dinner featuring gypsy music and a chanson in the bar.

On Sunday, visitors can enjoy excerpts from Bach’s “Goldberg variations” and a selection of Mozart’s “Quartets for Flute, Violin, Viola and Cello.” Afternoon tea concerts will focus on literature, with a selection of Béla Bartók’s duets accompanied by poems from Hungarian poets Endre Ady, János Pilinszky, Attila József, and László Nagy.

The festival will conclude with Brahms’ “Horn Trio in E flat major, Op. 40,” Béla Bartók’s “Contrasts,” and Tchaikovsky’s “Souvenir de Florence.”

The Winterfest is bringing together both local and foreign artists, including Ukrainian-British violinist and conductor Maxim Rysanov, Russian violinist Nikita Boriso-Glebsky, Argentine pianist and chamber musician José Gallardo, German clarinetist Thorsten Johanns, Dutch flutist, professor, and instrument maker Jacques Zoon, and cellist Iseut Chuat, among other artists.

Guests are welcome to attend the concerts at Hotel Palota during the festival, and tickets for each concert can be purchased separately through the Festival Academy website. The Winterfest presents an unmissable opportunity to experience a rich and vibrant musical showcase in the heart of Hungary.
