Increase in Infectious Diseases in Gaza: Alarm Raised by UN
The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) recently released a statement on their social media account highlighting the dire situation in Gaza. According to the statement, the World Health Organization has reported an increase in infectious diseases in Gaza, such as diarrhea and suspected cases of Hepatitis A.
UNRWA is continuing to provide health services in Gaza, but the overcrowding in shelters and limited hygiene conditions due to forced displacement are posing serious health risks to the Palestinian refugees. The statement reiterated the call for a ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need for peace.
The Media Office of the government in Gaza reported that over 1 million Palestinians have been affected by infectious diseases due to forced displacement, with approximately 20,000 cases of Hepatitis A recorded. The situation is particularly critical in the city of Rafah, where Palestinians are frequently forcibly displaced by the Israeli army’s ground attacks.
