Increased Police Presence and Focus in Budapest’s Party District After Major Raid

Intensified police presence and patrols in Budapest’s party district have been announced by the State Secretary of the Interior Ministry in order to ensure the safety of residents and visitors. Bence Rétvári stated that the increased police presence will focus on weekends and nights, when public security requires the most reinforcement.
The party district in Budapest covers approximately one square kilometer, including popular areas such as Erzsébet tér/Deák tér, Széchenyi István tér, Király utca, and Rákóczi út. In Inner-Erzsébetváros alone, 32 police officers patrol on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, with 58 officers patrolling on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Additionally, a major monthly criminal and law enforcement operation is conducted by the BRFK, involving around 100-150 police officers.
The government has also taken steps to improve public security in the area, with a strategy being devised by two appointed ministers. The government decree highlights the importance of Inner-Erzsébetváros for tourism and the need for government intervention. Measures have been put in place to regulate the number of catering establishments and nightclubs operating in the party district.
The situation in Budapest’s party district has been a topic of debate due to issues with tourism and the behavior of foreign visitors. The municipality implemented restrictions on nightclub openings and licensing to address these concerns. With the combined efforts of increased police presence and government intervention, the safety and security of Budapest’s party district is expected to improve in the coming months.
