Increasing Number of Hungarians Travelling Abroad: Cause for Celebration?
Increased household spending on travel abroad is a positive sign for the Hungarian economy, according to a recent press release from the National Economy Ministry. In December, around 250,000 more Hungarians traveled abroad compared to the same period the previous year, with a significant increase in flights from Liszt Ferenc International Airport.
The most popular destinations for Hungarian travelers in December were London, Istanbul, and Dubai, with over 212,000 people flying out from Budapest. Additionally, trips abroad by car increased by 5% year-on-year, with Austria and Slovakia being the top cross-border destinations.
The ministry attributed the rise in travel to dynamic real wage growth over the past year, indicating a strong consumer confidence in the Hungarian economy. The increase in outbound travel is a positive sign for the tourism industry and the overall economic outlook of the country.
