
Indonesia and Turkey unite for trade offensive

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s recent visits to Indonesia and President Prabowo Subio’s visit to Türkiye have paved the way for new cooperation opportunities between the two countries. Particularly in the defense industry, the strong relations that have been developing are expected to be further strengthened through new initiatives.
During Subianto’s visit, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their relations in line with the direction set by the presidents. Nuri Dogan Karadeniz, President of the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) Turkey-Indonesia Business Council, highlighted the potential for the trade and industry volume to grow from $3 billion to $10 billion.
Indonesia, a key country in the Asia-Pacific region, is seen as a powerhouse among ASEAN nations. The strategic location of Indonesia makes it a significant player in the region, alongside countries like China, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines.
The ongoing discussions between Türkiye and Indonesia, especially in the defense industry sector, have already yielded positive results. Both countries are working towards enhancing their collaboration in defense, trade, and other sectors.
The successful track record of Türkiye’s defense industry has earned the trust of Indonesia, making Türkiye a reliable partner for meeting the country’s defense needs. The strong partnership between Türkiye and Indonesia in the defense industry is seen as a positive development that will lead to further cooperation in various sectors.
Both countries are optimistic about the potential for increased trade volume, reaching the $10 billion target set by their leaders. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Indonesia has expressed interest in boosting exports and inviting Turkish companies to invest in sectors such as steel, palm oil, and healthcare.
Collaboration in renewable energy, geothermal projects, and technology exchange are also areas of interest for both countries. The mutual goal is to create a strong and mutually beneficial partnership that will benefit the economies and industries of both Türkiye and Indonesia.
