İnebolu District Evacuated Due to Flood Hazard in Kastamonu
Flash floods brought about by torrential rain continue to ravage the Kastamonu region, prompting authorities to issue a code red warning. The situation has become dire for the second time this year, with rivers and streams overflowing yet again and flood disasters affecting many areas. In response, measures have been taken to mitigate the risk of the Söke Stream, which runs through İnebolu district, from flooding.
Families residing on the ground and first floors of homes in İnebolu district have been urged to evacuate or relocate to higher floors. Teams have also been deployed to remove vehicles near the Söke Stream. Police patrols have been stepped up to warn residents of possible adverse weather conditions, specifically in İnebolu District.
The Söke Stream has already begun overflowing, causing water to flood in front of the İnebolu State Hospital, with institutions alerted to the situation through the crisis desk. In Bozkurt district, which suffered a major flood in 2021, the basement and ground floors of some apartments have also been affected. In the Çatalzeytin district, heavy rain has caused flooding in the district center and villages, damaging culvert bridges and making some areas inaccessible.
One affected resident has expressed frustrations, claiming that their house experiences annual flooding that landlords refuse to address. While a crisis desk has been created in İnebolu district, heavy rain persists in several areas, including Abana, Bozkurt, and Çatalzeytin regions.
The situation calls for immediate action from the authorities to prevent the loss of life and property, and to address the recurring flooding challenges endured by residents of the affected regions.
