Innovative Housing Model Proposed to Tackle Budapest’s Growing Housing Crisis

Dávid Vitézy, leader of the Podmaniczky Movement, has put forth a proposal to the Budapest Assembly for the implementation of a housing construction model programme. In addition, he is urging the Assembly to reconsider the sale of a student hostel located in Budapest’s District 11.
The housing situation in Budapest has reached a critical point, with both the government and the opposition acknowledging the urgency of the crisis. Vitézy took to Facebook to express his concerns, stating that all suitable properties, whether municipally owned construction sites or buildings, should be repurposed as homes or student hostels.
Furthermore, Vitézy is advocating for the introduction of a rental housing programme that would provide incentives to property developers to construct affordable rental units. Under this proposed model, developers would be granted construction rights while the city would have the authority to select potential tenants and offer housing subsidies to those eligible.
It is evident that action needs to be taken to address the housing crisis in Budapest, and Vitézy’s proposals offer potential solutions to alleviate the situation. By prioritizing the construction of affordable housing and repurposing existing properties, the city can take steps towards ensuring that all residents have access to safe and secure housing.
