Insect Found in Chickpea Package at Chain Market in Istanbul: Shocking Image Circulates

In a shocking discovery at a chain market in Kartal, Petroliş Neighborhood, citizens found live insects in a package of chickpeas on the aisle. The black insects were spotted by customers who recorded the situation with their mobile phones.

It was revealed that the packages of chickpeas had been on the shelves for 3 days without being noticed by the market employees. Upon receiving complaints from citizens, the Police and District Agriculture Directorate teams took action. They conducted an inspection at the market and found that all of the chickpea packages in the section were infested. The market employees destroyed the affected products, and the teams imposed an administrative fine of 15 thousand liras on the market.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety and the need for regular inspections. Recently, in Gaziantep, 30 thousand expired products were seized by Şahinbey Municipality police teams during a week-long inspection. Mayor Mehmet Tahmazoğlu emphasized the municipality’s commitment to protecting public health and ensuring that only safe and healthy products are sold to consumers.

Tahmazoğlu urged citizens to always check the expiry date of the products they purchase and report any concerns to the authorities. He highlighted the hotline number 174, which can be used to report expired or suspicious products. The municipality, along with the trade directorate and agriculture directorates, will continue their efforts to conduct thorough inspections and prevent the sale of expired or harmful products in the market.

It is essential for consumers to be vigilant and cautious when buying food items to safeguard their health and well-being. Awareness and cooperation between authorities and citizens are crucial in maintaining food safety standards and preventing incidents like the one at the chain market in Kartal.
