US and Russia Seek to Normalize Relations and End War in Ukraine
US Secretary of State Rubio addressed journalists following a meeting of US and Russian delegations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, aimed at normalizing bilateral relations and resolving the conflict in Ukraine. Rubio announced the establishment of a high-level team to facilitate peace talks and promote economic cooperation. Both delegations also agreed to re-employ embassy staff.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mariya Zaharova expressed Russia’s opposition to Ukraine’s membership in NATO, citing security concerns. Zaharova emphasized the need to address the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis before seeking a long-term solution. She also criticized European Union’s focus on military intervention in Ukraine, calling for a diplomatic approach.
Zaharova condemned Moldova’s decision to close the Russian Science and Cultural Center, known as the “Russian House,” calling it an affront to Russian culture and the people of Moldova. She highlighted the cultural ties between Moldova and Russia, emphasizing the importance of preserving linguistic and cultural heritage.
