Inspector Karpuzcu of the 59-Year-Old Police Organization Shares Insights at BRT
The Turkish Police Organization Celebrates its 59th Anniversary with Insights on Traffic Accidents and Inspections
June 30, 2023 marks the 59th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Police Organization. To commemorate this milestone, the Traffic Directorate Traffic and Research Branch Chief Inspector, Serdar Karpuzcu, joined BRT as a guest to provide information about the activities of the Traffic Directorate on this special occasion.
During his appearance, Inspector Serdar Karpuzcu shared details about traffic accidents in the country. In 2023 alone, there were a total of 1,984 traffic accidents reported. Sadly, these accidents resulted in 24 deaths, 210 injuries, and 1,750 incidents causing damage. These numbers are a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for continued efforts to prevent such incidents.
When discussing the reasons behind the increase in traffic accidents, Karpuzcu emphasized that speed was the most significant cause. As an organization dedicated to ensuring road safety, the Traffic Directorate will continue its efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding and promote a culture of responsible driving.
In response to a question about traffic inspections, Inspector Serdar Karpuzcu revealed that during these inspections, a total of 46,529 drivers were fined. Among the violations observed, speeding topped the list as the most common offense. Other common offenses included talking on a mobile phone while driving, failure to wear a seat belt, and driving under the influence.
These numbers highlight the importance of traffic inspections in deterring dangerous behavior on the roads. By enforcing penalties for violations, authorities aim to create a safer environment for all road users.
