Turkish Cypriot Insurance Agents Association Protests Against Proposed Amendment to Insurance Law
The Turkish Cypriot Insurance Agents Association took to the streets in protest in front of the Parliament of the Republic and the Ministry of Finance. The reason for their protest was the proposed amendment to the Insurance Services Regulation and Supervision Law, which they believe will have a negative impact on the sector.
Sermet Benli, President of the Turkish Cypriot Insurance Agencies Association, addressed the crowd in front of the Parliament, expressing concerns that the proposed amendment bill could potentially render insurance agencies dysfunctional. He vowed to fight against the bill in its current form to prevent it from being passed.
Following the demonstration in front of the Parliament, the protesters marched to the Ministry of Finance. Union President Benli reiterated their stance, stating that they expect to be informed and included in processes that directly affect insurance agencies in the future. He warned of potential backlash if they are excluded from such discussions.
Benli emphasized that insurance agencies are committed to maintaining a fair, transparent, and sustainable insurance industry. They are willing to take a constructive approach to ensure that the sector remains strong and viable for all stakeholders.
The protest serves as a reminder of the importance of collaboration and communication between the government and industry stakeholders to create balanced regulations that benefit the entire insurance sector.
