Interior Minister Soylu Holds Meeting with Beşiktaş Residents
Turkey’s Minister of Interior, Süleyman Soylu, addressed citizens in Beşiktaş as part of the AK Party’s Great Istanbul Meeting. Soylu described the event as the biggest rally in the country’s political history, with millions of people coming out to embrace an understanding that says their decision is the nation’s decision. He criticized Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) President Ekrem İmamoğlu’s management of the city and accused him of not making any significant improvements during his four-year tenure. Soylu also criticized the opposition for allegedly making a bargain with America and Europe and trying to intervene in Turkish politics. He called for the state’s legitimate right to protect itself against such activities. The election is due to take place on May 14th.
