The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Raises Concerns Over US Decision on Arms Embargo
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey recently issued a statement expressing its concerns over the decision taken by the United States to re-extend the arms embargo against the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus. The decision, originally taken in September 2020, was expanded in 2022 and extended again in 2023, now continuing for another year starting from October 1, 2024.
In response to this decision, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) also released a statement, highlighting the potential consequences of this move. The Ministry emphasized that this decision would lead to an increase in armament on the island, upsetting the delicate balances in the region.
The statement further warned that the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus might take measures to enhance its defense capabilities in response to the escalating armament activities. The Ministry called this decision a “grave mistake” and stressed the importance of maintaining stability and peace in the region.
