Internet Cut Off in African Countries Due to Submarine Line Malfunctions
Internet outages affected multiple African countries today as a result of breaks and malfunctions in undersea cables, according to a statement from MTN Group, a major network provider in Africa.
The statement highlighted that countries such as Ivory Coast, Liberia, Benin, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Namibia, and Lesotho experienced disruptions in their internet connectivity due to the issues with the cables under the sea. The affected cable networks include the West African Cable System (WACS) and lines connecting to Europe.
MTN Group also warned that if proper precautions are not taken, these outages could potentially have more serious consequences in the future. This is not the first time such disruptions have occurred, emphasizing the importance of addressing the underlying issues in the cable networks.
It is essential for authorities and network providers to work together to ensure the stability and reliability of internet connectivity in the region, as widespread outages can have far-reaching implications for businesses, education, and overall communication. Efforts should be made to prevent such incidents from happening in the future and to strengthen the resilience of the internet infrastructure in Africa.
