Investigation Launched into War Crimes after French Reporter Killed in Ukraine

France Launches War Crimes Investigation Following Death of Journalist in Ukraine
The French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office has launched a war crimes investigation into the death of French journalist Arman Soldin. Soldin was killed while covering the war in Ukraine, and the investigation will be conducted by the Central Office for Combating Crimes Against Humanity (OCLCH), an investigative unit specializing in crimes against humanity and hate crimes. The authorities hope to determine the exact circumstances of his death.
Soldin was affiliated with the French news agency AFP, which was attacked by a rocket in a town close to Bakhmut, where intense clashes took place in the city of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region. This attack led to the death of the journalist, who was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, Soldin’s death marks the 15th time a journalist has been killed while covering the war in Ukraine since February 2022.
The war between Ukraine and Russian-backed separatists has been ongoing since 2014, and tensions have risen in recent months amidst fears of a potential Russian invasion. The death of Soldin only underscores the danger that journalists face while reporting from the warzone.
Soldin’s colleagues and friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to him, sharing memories of his dedication and bravery as a journalist.
The investigation into Soldin’s death is ongoing, and the international community will be watching closely to see if the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
