Maserati Police Officer Found Dead in His Car Under Investigation
In a tragic turn of events, a police officer named Hüseyin Tayfun Üçgül was found dead in his car in the Gökbel District of Ortaca in Muğla province. The incident is currently under investigation by authorities.
The chain of events leading up to Üçgül’s death started on April 22, 2023, on the Izmir-Istanbul highway. An argument broke out between Üçgül, driving a vehicle with the license plate 48 TC 377, and Fatih Uzun, an attorney driving a car with the license plate 34 BJC 892. The altercation escalated, with both parties exchanging insults and eventually stopping their vehicles on the side of the road.
According to witnesses, Uzun attempted to punch Üçgül, but only grazed him. In response, Üçgül kicked Uzun, injuring his knee and remarking, “You do not know who is who.” Uzun then made a threat, claiming to have connections to public prosecutors and the mafia, and vowed to hold Üçgül accountable.
As a result of the incident, Uzun suffered a broken leg, prompting the Manisa Soma Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office to prepare an indictment. The indictment alleges that Üçgül should be tried for “public insult” and “intentional injury,” with a requested prison sentence of 6 years and 10 months.
The incident caught the attention of the Ministry of Interior, leading to an administrative investigation being launched against Üçgül. As a result, he was transferred from the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch to a less active unit. Additionally, an inspector was appointed to investigate both the incident and Üçgül’s assets.
Tragically, before the investigation could conclude, Üçgül’s body was discovered in his car parked in a forest. Prompted by a report from concerned individuals, emergency services were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, it was determined that Üçgül had taken his own life by shooting himself in the head. He leaves behind three children.
Following an initial examination by the Public Prosecutor, Üçgül’s body was transferred to the Muğla Forensic Medicine Institute Morgue for autopsy. Subsequently, an investigation was launched to further understand the circumstances surrounding his death.
The incident has left authorities and the community shocked and saddened. As the investigation progresses, more details may emerge shedding light on the motive behind Üçgül’s untimely death.
