Iran Expels 4 Azerbaijani Diplomats as Persona Non Grata
Four Azerbaijani diplomats were recently expelled from Iran, according to reports from the official Iranian news agency, IRNA. Last month, the Azerbaijan Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials in Tehran and Tabriz were deemed persona non grata and deported. This response comes after Azerbaijan declared 4 Iranian diplomats as “persons unwanted” in their country.
The strained relationship between the two nations has been exacerbated by recent events. Following an armed attack on the Tehran Embassy on January 27th, Azerbaijan withdrew its personnel from the country on January 29th. On April 6th, Azerbaijan declared 4 Iranian diplomats at the Baku Embassy of Iran as “persona non grata” and asked them to leave the country.
The situation between Iran and Azerbaijan remains fragile, with both nations taking steps to reduce tensions. The expulsion of diplomats from both countries highlights this ongoing diplomatic dispute.
