Iranian Elections Conclude: Waiting for the Results

The voting period in the Iranian presidential election has come to a close after being extended three times. The initial end time of 18:00 was pushed to 20:00, then to 22:00, and finally concluding at midnight. Only those who were inside the polling stations at midnight were allowed to continue voting, with the ballot boxes now being opened for vote counting.

Candidates in the election include reformist Massoud Pezeshkiyan, conservative Parliament Speaker Muhammed Baqir Qalibaf, former National Security Supreme Council Secretary General Said Jalili, and former Interior Minister Mustafa Purmuhammedi. Conservative candidates Tehran Mayor Ali Reza Zakani and Emir Hossein Kadizadehashemi withdrew their candidacy before the election to ensure unity within the conservative wing.

In order to be elected in the first round, candidates must receive 50+1 percent of the votes. If no candidate reaches this threshold, the top two candidates will advance to a second round on July 5. The winner of the second round will become the 9th President of Iran.

The first data on election results are expected to be released at midnight, with final results set to be announced before noon the following day. Stay tuned for updates on this closely watched election.
