Iranian President to Visit Moscow on January 17

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to visit Moscow on January 17, according to an announcement made by Ambassador of the Islamic Republic to the Russian Federation Kazem Jalali. The visit will involve the signing of an agreement on comprehensive strategic partnership between Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin, as reported by IRNA.

During a meeting on December 23 in Tehran, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev extended an invitation to Pezeshkian to visit Russia in early 2025. Savelyev emphasized Russia’s willingness for negotiations and further cooperation with Iran. Pezeshkian confirmed his government’s commitment to completing the construction of the North-South strategic international corridor during this meeting.

In another development, Iran was recently granted observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union. The document granting Iran observer status was signed by the heads of the five member states of the Union on December 26. The signing took place at a ceremony following a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in St. Petersburg, attended by Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mining, and Trade Mohammad Atabak.

This visit and the observer status in the EAEU mark important milestones in the growing relationship between Iran and Russia, highlighting the potential for increased cooperation and collaboration between the two countries.
