Isias Hotel Hearing Resumes After Break
The İsias Hotel hearing has resumed after an interruption caused by a dispute between lawyers. The hearing continued at around 16:10 Turkey time with the testimony of hotel employee witness Zeynel Can.
During the questioning, witness Can revealed that the hotel collapsed towards its parking lot during the earthquake. He also mentioned hearing the voices of two women after escaping from the rubble. Can recounted how he rescued the women and took them to the Red Crescent container before returning home.
Describing the chaotic scene, Can mentioned seeing the roof of the hotel amidst the wreckage and the distance he had to cover to reach safety. He also clarified that no one left bed at the hotel that morning. He rescued two women from the rubble but was unable to identify them due to the tumult and his own fear.
Can also addressed questions about the hotel’s capacity and zoning amnesty, stating that he had no knowledge of any capacity increase or the construction process of the hotel. He further clarified that the upper floor of the hotel was only used as a restaurant and that the adjacent office belonged to Ahmet Bozkurt.
In response to the defendants’ lawyers, Can revealed that four neighboring buildings had collapsed onto the hotel. This testimony provides valuable insight into the events leading up to the tragic collapse of the İsias Hotel.
