Israel Accused of Using Banned White Phosphorus in Attacks on Palestinians
In a recent statement released by the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on their social media platform, it was alleged that Israel has been using internationally banned white phosphorus against Palestinians. The statement specifically mentioned the use of phosphorus bombs in the Kerame region located in the northern part of Gaza. The Geneva-based European-Mediterranean Human Rights Organization also supported these claims, stating that the Israeli military forces have used phosphorus weapons in densely populated areas in the northwest of Gaza City.
These accusations are not new, as the New York-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) has previously reported Israel’s use of phosphorus in its attacks on the Gaza Strip. However, Israel has yet to comment on these allegations.
The conflict between Israel and Palestine continues to escalate, with the recent comprehensive attack launched by Hamas’s armed wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, on Israel, named the “Aqsa Flood”. In response to this attack, thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israel, and Palestinian armed groups raided and took control of the Beit Hanun-Erez Border Gate on the Gaza-Israel border. The armed groups then infiltrated settlements within Israel, leading the Israeli army to launch an attack on the Gaza Strip with multiple warplanes.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health has reported that 830 people have lost their lives and 4,250 have been injured in Gaza as a result of the Israeli attacks. In the occupied West Bank, 19 individuals have been reported dead, and approximately 110 have been injured due to attacks by Israeli soldiers. On the Israeli side, it has been reported that 1,000 individuals have lost their lives, and 2,806 have been injured, with 106 of them in serious condition, as a result of the attacks carried out from Gaza.
As the situation continues to unfold, the international community closely watches the developments and urges both parties to seek a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
