Israel Faces Global Outrage: Unprecedented Exodus as World Runs Out of Patience

Israel violated United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and United Nations resolutions once again, this time by targeting the headquarters of United Nations peacekeepers in Nakura, southern Lebanon. On October 10, Israeli tanks fired at the UNIFIL base on the Mediterranean coast, injuring two soldiers from the Indonesian army.
The UN condemned the attacks, stating that Israeli troops repeatedly hit observation points and security cameras in the area. Speaking after the attacks, UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti called it a serious violation of international law, as the positions were well-known to Israel as UN observation points.
The Israeli army had announced the start of a land invasion of Lebanon on October 1, demanding the withdrawal of UN peacekeepers from the Blue Line border. The attacks on the UNIFIL base were discussed in the United Nations Security Council meeting, where concerns were raised about the increasing danger to peacekeepers.
Various countries, including the US, Russia, China, Italy, Turkey, and the EU, strongly condemned Israel’s actions and called for accountability. Italy protested officially, stating that it would not take orders from Israel and describing the attack as a possible war crime.
Turkey labeled the attack as a manifestation of Israel’s impunity, while the EU, Ireland, and France demanded explanations and urgent ceasing of hostilities in Lebanon. Indonesian officials criticized Israel for positioning itself above international law and impunity, as it is the country that has contributed the most soldiers to UNIFIL.
The international community, including Canada and Finland, joined in condemning the attack and emphasized their support for UNIFIL’s peacekeeping efforts. UNIFIL has been operating in the region since 1978, striving to maintain peace in the region after Israel’s withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory.
