Israeli army opens fire on Palestinians waiting for aid trucks in Gaza Strip
Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for the Civil Defense Unit in the Gaza Strip, reported that the Israeli army fired on Palestinians who were waiting for aid trucks near the Kuwait Junction in the eastern part of Gaza. The attack resulted in deaths and injuries among the individuals seeking assistance, although specific details were not provided.
The incident comes amidst heightened tensions in the region, with Hamas’s armed wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, launching a comprehensive attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The attack was carried out in response to what Hamas described as “continuous violations against the Palestinians and sacred values, especially the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
Since October 7, Israel reported that 1,200 Israelis have died and over 5,000 people have been injured in attacks. Meanwhile, in Israel’s assaults on the Gaza Strip, over 31,000 Palestinians, including thousands of children and women, have been killed, with tens of thousands more injured. The destruction of civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and educational institutions, has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Amidst the conflict, a “humanitarian pause” was declared on November 24, 2023, during which 81 Israelis and 240 Palestinians were released from detention. However, Israel continued to detain and imprison thousands of Palestinians.
In addition to the Gaza Strip, attacks by Israeli forces and illegal Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem have resulted in the deaths of 426 Palestinians since October 7, 2023. Clashes between the Israeli army and Hezbollah at the border have also led to casualties, with members from both sides losing their lives.
The situation in the region remains volatile, with continued violence and loss of life on both sides of the conflict. Efforts towards peace and stability are urgently needed to prevent further bloodshed and suffering among the civilian population.
