Israel Holds Bodies of 500 Palestinians In Detention
The Initiative to Recover the Bodies of the Martyrs has recently issued a statement regarding Israel’s actions towards Palestinian bodies. According to the statement, Israel has been keeping the bodies of 500 Palestinians, with 58 of them being held since the beginning of this year, in the Numbers Cemetery. In April alone, Israel handed over the bodies of 4 Palestinians.
The Initiative highlighted that Israel’s practice of keeping the bodies in the Numbers Cemetery and morgues goes against international principles and human dignity. The statement also mentioned that the data shared did not include the bodies detained from Gaza after October 7, 2023.
It is a known fact that Israel buries the bodies of Palestinians it detains in a place known as the “Cemetery of Numbers”, where the graves are marked with numbers instead of names. This practice has raised concerns about the lack of respect for the deceased and their families.
The Initiative to Recover the Bodies of the Martyrs continues to call for the return of all Palestinian bodies held by Israel and urges for an end to this violation of human rights and dignity. The international community is also urged to take action to ensure that such practices are stopped and that the bodies of all Palestinians are returned to their families for proper burial.
