Israeli and Greek media take aim at Erdogan
With only one week left until the Turkish elections, the international media’s interest continues to rise. Israeli and Greek newspapers recently joined the Western media declaring war against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, an analysis claimed that Erdogan’s political future is uncertain and that he is hitting all directions. The Jerusalem Post published an analysis titled “Erdogan’s AKP Relies on Nationalism towards the 14 May Elections in Turkey,” claiming that the ruling party is forcing all conditions to win votes and is going back to the roots of extremism. Greek newspaper Kathimerini analyses the election, stating that six opposition parties nominated a controversial former civil servant in a close head-to-head presidential and parliamentary election. The Financial Times newspaper wrote that the presidential elections will be a tight race between Erdogan and his main rival, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. Politico magazine also prepared a special page for the elections in Turkey and Greece that will take place one after the other, showing previous election results and survey results. On the other hand, the German Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper put Erdogan’s victory on its page, according to a survey results published by Hakan Bayrakçı. The article predicted the result will be clear in the second round according to the poll.
