Israeli army’s fire in Gaza results in death of Palestinian woman

Israeli forces have once again opened fire on Palestinians in the South of Gaza Strip, leading to casualties. According to the Palestinian official agency WAFA, the incident took place in the Cineyne neighborhood of the city of Welfare Hana, where a woman named Tevfik al-Guti lost her life.

Despite a ceasefire declared by Israel on 19th January, reports indicate that Israeli soldiers continued to open fire with machine rifles in various points in the north of Gaza City. Many people have been killed or injured as a result of these fires and air strikes in the Gaza Strip.

On a more positive note, a ceasefire and captive exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel came into effect on Sunday, January 19. As part of this agreement, the Netzarim corridor was opened to Palestinians on January 27, allowing movement from the south to the north of the Gaza Strip. Additionally, the welfare border crossing between Gaza and Egypt was opened on February 1 after being closed for 8 months due to Israeli occupation.

The captive exchange process has already seen the release of 1135 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons, as well as 19 Israeli and 5 Thai prisoners in Gaza. This is just the beginning, as the agreement is expected to continue in three stages, with the first stage set to release over 1900 Palestinian prisoners and 33 Israeli prisoners over a 42-day period.

It is clear that both peace and economic development are essential for lasting stability in the region, as emphasized by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Peace cannot be permanent unless it is supported by economic development and prosperity. The situation in Gaza continues to be complex, with ongoing conflicts and efforts towards reconciliation and peace.
