Israeli Forces Accused of War Crimes for Converting Hospital into Military Barracks
The government in Gaza has condemned the Israeli forces’ actions in converting the Nasser Hospital compound in the city of Khan Younis into a “military barracks,” labeling it as a complete war crime.
In a written statement released by the Media Office of the government in Gaza, it was reported that Nasser Hospital, located in the city of Khan Younis in the south of the Gaza Strip, was transformed into a “military barracks” under pressure from Israeli forces.
The statement alleged that the Israeli army directly threatened civilians in Nasser Hospital with execution, leaving people in the hospital hungry and thirsty, and preventing children from receiving milk.
Describing the raid on Nasser Hospital as a war crime and a shame for humanity, the statement accused the Israeli army of opening fire on civilians and healthcare workers seeking shelter inside the hospital. The move was condemned as a violation of international law.
The harsh treatment of the people at Nasser Hospital, including the prevention of healthcare workers from treating hundreds of patients and injured individuals, was also highlighted in the statement.
Furthermore, Israel and the international community were held responsible for the lives of hundreds of healthcare workers and patients at Nasser Hospital.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that the Israeli army attempted to convert Nasser Hospital into a barracks, targeted the ambulance center and displaced Palestinians’ tents, and damaged mass graves on the hospital campus with bulldozers.
Since January 22, the Israeli army has been carrying out intense attacks, including air and artillery fire, on the city of Khan Younis in the south of Gaza and the hospitals in the area, despite previously designating it as a “safe zone.”
The actions of the Israeli forces at Nasser Hospital have prompted widespread condemnation and calls for accountability for what has been deemed as egregious violations of international law and humanitarian standards.
