Israeli Forces to Direct Civilians in Rafah to “Humanitarian Islands” before Ground Attack
Israeli Army Prepares for Ground Attack on Rafah, Causing Concerns for Displaced Palestinians
The Israeli Army Spokesperson, Daniel Hagari, has announced plans for a potential ground attack on Rafah, raising concerns for the safety of Palestinian civilians trapped in the region. According to The Times of Israel, Hagari emphasized the importance of relocating civilians to designated areas in preparation for the anticipated operation.
It is estimated that approximately 1.5 million Palestinians have been displaced in Rafah, following the recent attacks. Hagari stated that these displaced individuals will be directed to “humanitarian islands” within the region, where they will receive temporary shelter, food, water, and other essential needs.
The city of Rafah, located on the Egyptian border in the south, was once home to around 280 thousand Palestinians. However, due to escalating violence, the population has swelled to 1.5 million, with many seeking refuge in makeshift camps.
Israeli forces have targeted Rafah with airstrikes, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region. Concerns remain high for the safety and wellbeing of the displaced Palestinians, as the threat of a ground attack looms.
While the timing of the evacuation and potential ground operations has not been disclosed, Hagari emphasized the need for strategic planning to ensure the safety of both Israeli forces and civilians in the area. International actors are closely monitoring the situation, calling for restraint and peaceful resolutions to prevent further displacement and suffering among the Palestinian population.
