Israeli Forces Unable to Stop Attack on Palestinian Village Despite Advance Warning
Israeli Army Criticized for Failing to Prevent Attack on Palestinian Village
According to a report in the Jerusalem Post newspaper, Israel’s domestic intelligence agency Shin-Bet (Shabak) had warned the army and police about a potential attack on the village of Cit. However, despite the warning, the attack still took place.
The report states that Shabak had informed the army and police half an hour before the attack that a group of Israelis who had seized Palestinian land in the illegal settlement of Yitzar were preparing to launch an attack. Unfortunately, the Israeli army did not take action to prevent the attack on the village of Cit.
When the attack began, only a small number of Israeli soldiers were sent to the village, which was insufficient to prevent the violence. Additionally, reports indicate that no arrests were made at the scene of the attack, with only four of the approximately 100 attackers being detained in the following days based on intelligence provided by Shabak.
The incident took place on August 15 when a group of Israelis who had usurped Palestinian land attacked the village of Cit in the West Bank province of Qalqilya. One Palestinian was killed, another was seriously injured, and several houses and vehicles belonging to Palestinians were set on fire.
Following an investigation, the Israeli army admitted that it “failed” to prevent the attacks on the village of Cit. The incident has sparked criticism and calls for accountability for the lack of action taken to prevent the violence.
