Israeli President Isaac Herzog Faces Criminal Complaints in Switzerland
Israeli President Isaac Herzog is facing criminal complaints in Switzerland during his visit to Davos to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF). According to Bern Today newspaper, the complaints were forwarded to the Swiss Federal Prosecutor’s Office through the Bern cantonal police, with many individual complaints being made in the cantons of Bern, Geneva, and Zurich.
The prosecutor’s office has stated that the criminal complaints will be examined according to the normal procedure, and they are in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assess the situation regarding Herzog’s immunity. The decision on his immunity will be made by the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The exact nature of the charges was not disclosed by the prosecutor’s office, but it was revealed that the “Legal Action Against Crimes Against Humanity” group filed the criminal complaints. The group expressed their hope that a criminal investigation will be opened and emphasized the importance of conducting such an investigation parallel to proceedings before the International Criminal Court.
The group argued that Switzerland has an obligation to conduct an investigation and pointed out that diplomatic immunity has been disregarded in the past in cases such as that of former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh. They believe that this should also apply to “Western criminals”.
The World Economic Forum took place in Davos from January 15-19 this year, and the situation regarding the criminal complaints against Herzog is ongoing.
