Israeli Soldier Dismissed After Torture Allegations on TV
An Israeli soldier from the Israeli army (IDF) recently appeared on television to give an interview regarding the events at the Sde Teiman Detention Center, where horrific human rights violations, including torture and rape, have been reported. Following the interview, the soldier was quickly removed from his reserve duty.
The soldier in question was involved in overseeing the Sde Teiman Detention Center, where Palestinian prisoners are held. He was previously arrested on suspicion of abusing a detainee but was later released. During the interview, the soldier defended the treatment of the Palestinian prisoner, denying any sexual abuse and claiming they were simply conducting a search.
However, security camera footage aired on Israeli television Channel 12 revealed Israeli soldiers sexually assaulting a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman Detention Center. The soldiers used shields to prevent the security camera from recording their actions. A doctor’s report confirmed the sexual assault on the prisoner.
As a result of the incident, nine soldiers were arrested, and an investigation was launched by the Israeli Attorney General’s Office for serious mistreatment of a detainee. The soldiers’ arrests led to protests in Israel, with some far-right ministers expressing support for the abusive behavior. Following the protests, five soldiers were released, sparking outrage in the international community.
One soldier anonymously shared their experience at the detention center, describing the overcrowded and inhumane living conditions the detainees faced. The soldier mentioned that they were instructed to ensure the detainees remained seated and blindfolded at all times and were allowed to punish them if they disobeyed.
The soldier also noted the lack of basic facilities and strict control measures in the detention center, highlighting the degrading treatment the Palestinian prisoners endured. This firsthand account sheds light on the harsh reality faced by detainees at the Sde Teiman facility.
