Israel’s Continued Restrictions on Aid to Gaza Criticized by UN

UN-Led Humanitarian Missions Deliver Aid to Besieged Areas in Gaza
Stephanie Tremblay, Deputy Spokesperson of the UN Secretary-General, addressed journalists at the UN Headquarters in New York regarding recent developments in the Middle East, particularly in the northern Gaza Strip.
Despite ongoing conflict and Israeli restrictions, Tremblay announced that two UN-led humanitarian missions successfully reached besieged areas in northern Gaza on December 20. Aid trucks were delivered to Beit Hanun and Kemal Advan Hospital, where 8 patients and their companions were transferred to Al Shifa hospital due to the inadequate conditions.
“These were the only two approved of 8 missions requested by the UN to reach northern Gaza between 18 and 22 December,” Tremblay stated. However, concerns remain among residents in these areas, fearing a potential escalation in hostilities following the aid delivery.
In a troubling development, Tremblay revealed that Israeli authorities issued an evacuation order for two neighborhoods in the west of Gaza, exposing civilians to more hostility and depriving them of essential services.
While Israel approved the passage of 66 aid trucks to Gaza, Tremblay reported that yesterday, the convoy was attacked by Israeli forces. As a result, only 43 of the 66 aid trucks reached those in need, with the remaining trucks being delayed and eventually lost due to looting along the route.
The situation in Gaza remains precarious, with ongoing conflict and humanitarian needs still unmet. The UN continues to call for unrestricted access to deliver aid and support to all those affected by the crisis in the region.
