Istanbul Governorship Holds 100th Anniversary Republic Day Ceremony
On October 29th, 2023, the Istanbul Governorship organized a reception ceremony to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Republic Day. The ceremony took place in Beyoğlu and was attended by Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Istanbul Police Chief Zafer Aktaş, 1st Army Commander Ali Sivri, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, members of parliament, public institution managers, and numerous guests.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Quran and prayers. This was followed by a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem. Additionally, films created by the Presidential Directorate of Communications and the Istanbul Governorship, specifically for the Republic’s centennial, were screened during the program. Governor Davut Gül also delivered a speech at the ceremony.
Gül emphasized the valor and bravery displayed by the Turkish nation throughout history, highlighting key events such as the Battle of Manzikert, the Gallipoli Campaign, the Battle of Dumlupınar, and the July 15th coup attempt. He stated that these acts have established Turkey as a global civilization and that the Republic is the nation’s strongest achievement. Gül expressed that the Republic represents the resurrection of the Turkish people and their longstanding state tradition. He also emphasized Turkey’s aspirations to be one of the world’s most powerful nations and its commitment to peace.
Governor Gül further mentioned the significance of Istanbul in the celebration of the Republic’s centennial and highlighted its role in uniting continents and connecting civilizations. He emphasized the importance of honoring the legacy of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founding father of Turkey, and their dedication to building a prosperous future under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The ceremony concluded with the cutting of a specially designed cake to commemorate the 100th anniversary. The event featured performances by various artists.
