Istanbul Governorship Initiates Legal Proceedings Against 28 Individuals in Nevruz Event
The Istanbul Governorship has taken legal action against 28 individuals who displayed illegal slogans during the Nevruz activities in Yenikapi. According to a statement released by the Governor’s Office, a complaint was filed by the Regulation Committee after banners with illegal content were displayed during the celebration of Nevruz on March 23.
The Governor’s Office noted that despite warnings issued to the Regulation Committee regarding the appearance of slogans with criminal elements and the display of illegal banners, no action was taken by the committee to rectify the situation. Consequently, legal proceedings have been initiated against the individuals responsible for the unauthorized banners.
Furthermore, the statement emphasized that such actions violate the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911, and efforts are being made to identify and address any illegal activities that may occur during public events.
In light of this incident, the Governor’s Office has stressed the importance of compliance with relevant legislation and the need for organizers to obtain proper permissions before conducting any activities in public spaces. It is crucial to uphold the rule of law and ensure that public gatherings are conducted in a lawful and peaceful manner.
