Istanbul Judge’s Accidental Shooting of Allegedly Seizure-Prone Person
In an unfortunate incident in Kağıthane Çağlayan, Istanbul, a man allegedly had an epileptic attack on the pavement and grabbed the shoulder of a young judge, F.Ö. (33), who was also studying in the same area. Mistaking the man’s panic for an attack, the young judge drew his gun and shot the man in the leg. The injured man, Ali İhsan Y. (63), was known to the locals as a sick person with epilepsy and was on medication. According to witnesses, he gets worse after using the medication and feels like attacking someone. The incident has sparked an investigation by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. The injured man is currently under treatment at a hospital, and his condition is reported to be stable. The incident highlights the need for better education and awareness about epilepsy and how to handle situations involving people having seizures.
