Istanbul’s ‘Half of It is on Us’ Campaign Announces Grant, Loan, and Evacuation Support
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced a new urban transformation campaign aimed at transforming 350 thousand houses in Istanbul with a support of 1 and a half million liras. The president also stated that the loans to be given within the scope of the campaign will start payment after the houses are completed and the first year will be collected without interest.
The announcement was made during the Transformation of the Century Istanbul Program held at Lütfi Kırdar International Congress and Exhibition Center. President Erdoğan emphasized that more than 2 million homes have already been transformed since 2012, and expressed hope that the ongoing transformation will be completed successfully without an earthquake.
Regarding the reserve areas for the construction of 400 thousand houses, it was mentioned that citizens and the state will build 350 thousand units together. In addition, 100 thousand social housing will be built throughout the province, with Toki having constructed over 1 million houses so far.
Furthermore, it was highlighted that the campaign for urban transformation does not aim for profit, but rather to address citizens’ problems and enhance human life. Dr. Mustafa Ilıcalı, a transportation expert, stated on CNN Türk that the decisions were made with common sense and in the best interest of the citizens.
In terms of earthquake risk and preparedness, it was stressed that involving citizens and raising awareness will be crucial for addressing the urgent need to build 600 thousand houses. The president emphasized the importance of serving the nation and allocating the necessary resources for the campaign.
The details of the “Half of It is on Us” campaign include a 700 thousand lira grant, 700 thousand lira loan, and 100 thousand lira evacuation support for each independent section in Istanbul, totaling 1.5 million lira support. The campaign aims to accelerate urban transformation efforts and address the housing needs of the citizens.
