The 34th tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) came to an exciting conclusion as Nigeria faced off against the host country, Ivory Coast, in the final match.
The match, held at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, saw Nigeria taking the lead in the first half with a goal by William Troost-Ekong in the 38th minute. However, Ivory Coast fought back in the second half, with Franck Kessie scoring the equalizer in the 62nd minute and Sebastien Haller securing the win with a goal in the 81st minute, resulting in a 2-1 victory for Ivory Coast.
This marks Ivory Coast’s third Africa Cup of Nations title, adding to their previous victories in 1992 and 2015.
Notable players from Turkish clubs featured prominently in the match, with Max Gradel, who plays for Gaziantep FK, and Serge Aurier, now with Galatasaray, starting for Ivory Coast. Meanwhile, Nicolas Pepe from Trabzonspor waited on the bench as a substitute. On the Nigerian side, Bright Osayi-Samuel (Fenerbahçe), Paul Onuachu (Trabzonspor), Kenneth Omeruo (Kasımpaşa), and Ahmed Musa (Sivasspor) did not have the chance to play.
