Iyi Parti’s Work Operates Independently from Alliance Framework
Preparations Underway in Iyi Party for Local Elections in 2024
As the local elections scheduled for March 2024 approach, the Iyi Party is actively preparing for the event. The party is currently conducting studies to nominate candidates in all 81 provinces, without considering any alliances or cooperations. Behind the scenes, it is rumored that President Meral Akşener aims to pursue “independent politics” leading up to the local elections, with the idea of going alone gaining prominence within the party.
In the midst of these preparations, it is important to note that the issue of alliance has not been discussed in any bilateral talks. According to a statement made by Good Party Spokesperson Kürşad Zorlu, there have been no discussions or proposals for an alliance or cooperation from any other party so far. It is only in the case of an offer from another party that the possibility of an alliance would be considered in the future.
Based on information obtained from Good Party members, the prevailing idea within the party is to enter the elections without forming an alliance. During the last General Administrative Board meeting, none of the members proposed an alliance, indicating that the local organizations of the party are also in favor of entering the elections independently.
In the lead up to the local elections, the Iyi Party is focusing on field work. Chairman of Local Administrations, Burak Akburak, is visiting municipalities affiliated with the Iyi Party, while Buğra Kavuncu, the President of the Organization, is visiting various party organizations. These visits provide an opportunity to gather the requests and recommendations of both the organizations and grassroots voters. Additionally, Chairman Akşener is planning to embark on provincial tours, starting from Afyonkarahisar at the end of August.
With the Iyi Party committed to carrying out its own independent politics and focusing on grassroots engagement, the local elections in 2024 are expected to be an important milestone in the party’s journey.
