Izmir Electricity Crisis: 2 Suspects Under House Arrest

Following the development of an expert report on the incident being investigated by the Izmir Public Prosecutor’s Office, 10 suspects, including İZSU General Manager Gürkan Erdoğan, former İZSU General Manager Ali Hıdır Köseoğlu, and Gdz Electricity Distribution General Manager Uğur Yüksel, who were detained recently, faced further questioning by the judge after providing their statements at the prosecutor’s office.

The judgeship decided that 8 of the suspects, including Erdoğan, Köseoğlu, and Yüksel, would be released with a restriction on traveling abroad, while 2 of them were placed under house arrest.

As part of the ongoing investigation, one individual who was apprehended in Ordu and interviewed via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS) has been released from the prosecutor’s office.

Tragically, Özge Ceren Deniz and İnanç Öktemay lost their lives on July 12 in the Konak district of Izmir after stepping into a puddle during a heavy downpour and being electrocuted.

Out of the 51 suspects targeted in the investigation, 48 have been apprehended, with 14 of them being formally arrested in connection with the incident. This case has sparked widespread public concern and calls for accountability for all those involved.
