Japan Experiences Record-High Temperatures in 2024
According to a recent report by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the country is facing its hottest summer on record in 2024. The agency stated that this year has seen extreme temperatures surpassing those recorded since 1898 when comparable data began to be monitored.
The average temperature during the June-August period was reported to be 1.76 degrees Celsius higher than the average recorded between 1991 and 2020. Additionally, a total of 144 out of 914 observation points across Japan detected record-high temperatures during the summer months.
While the JMA warned that the high temperatures could persist until mid-September, they also provided advice on measures to prevent heat stroke. Recommendations included using air conditioning when necessary and staying hydrated.
This report comes after the agency announced that Japan had experienced its hottest summer in the last 125 years in 2023. The trend of rising temperatures is a cause for concern, highlighting the urgent need for measures to address climate change and its impacts on weather patterns.
