Join Me in Water Conservation: Let’s make a Difference Together
Emine Erdogan, Chairman of the United Nations (UN) Zero Waste High-Level Advisory Board, recently attended the “22 March World Water Day: Water Productivity Summit” in Istanbul, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Zero Waste Foundation. At the summit, Erdogan highlighted the importance of water efficiency and the need for proactive measures to address water scarcity.
Under the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Turkey launched the “National Water Efficiency Mobilization” two years ago, aiming to fulfill a national responsibility and implement strategies to conserve water resources. Erdogan praised the efforts of various ministries, local governments, and stakeholders in implementing water efficiency initiatives.
During the summit, Erdogan expressed gratitude to the ministers and institution heads who signed the “Water Efficiency Cooperation Protocol” and emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving water efficiency goals. She also stressed the need for individuals to adopt efficient water usage practices to reduce water wastage.
Erdogan highlighted the challenges posed by climate change, pollution, drought, and population growth in reducing the availability of drinkable freshwater. She called for a collective effort to increase water productivity in various sectors, including industry, agriculture, and individual households.
The summit featured speeches by Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, Zero Waste Foundation President Samed Ağırbaş, and video messages from UN representatives, emphasizing the global importance of water conservation and sustainable development.
In addition to discussions and presentations, the summit included activities such as music concerts, art competitions, and educational demonstrations on water conservation. Emine Erdogan actively participated in these activities to raise awareness about the importance of efficient water use and the need for collective action to address water scarcity.
The program concluded with the signing of the “Water Efficiency Cooperation Protocols” by government officials and the participation of various stakeholders in promoting water efficiency initiatives. Emine Erdogan’s involvement and advocacy for water conservation underscored the critical role of individuals and organizations in safeguarding water resources for future generations.
